UNIVERSITY STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE TO LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS - Two university students have been spending this summer working at Newport Computers in partnership with LC Analytics, LLC to assign metrics to the life cycle of computers and other IT equipment. Mike Ersting and Chris Schwab have been performing detailed analysis of the computers and their components to better understand and predict the impact these materials have on sustainability and life cycle.
Mike Ernsting, a member of the Class of 2013 at Tufts University, is majoring in Environmental Engineering. He has been working with LC Analytics for two years. Chris Schwab, a Business Management major at The University of New Hampshire (Class of 2013), joined the LC Analytics team last fall.

STUDENTS SPEND SUMMER AT NEWPORT - Each summer, Newport is pleased to welcome several area students to its workforce. These talented high school students spend their vacation learning about the e-waste industry and contributing to Newport's work responsibly handling old and obsolete electronics.
In 2011, three young men from Madbury, NH have been part of Newport. Roy Hutton is a recent graduate of Oyster River High School in Durham, NH and will be attending Villanova University in the fall. Danny Tobin and Rohan Nanda both attend St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover.

BETTER COMPANIES, BETTER NATIONS, BETTER PLANET - The Glasgow-based writer and artist Alasdair Gray is fond of a quote engraved in a wall of the Scottish Parliament building, "Work as if you live in the early days of a better nation."
It is an injunction that conjures up images of deep-rooted enthusiasm, vigor and ethical behavior, where people go earnestly about their daily tasks boosted by the knowledge that they are improving their country and the world.
Anyone familiar with this quote, and taking a tour of the Newport Computer Services building in north Rochester, after chatting to employees, might well look around for a factory wall engraving that has inspired everyone to "Work as if you live in the early days of a better company." (more)

NEWPORT INCREASES ITS SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE - During the Spring semester, UNH seniors Corey Johnson and Jon Roberts conducted a research project for their course Corporate Project Experience, building a social media strategy for Newport. Thanks to Corey and Jon's work, you can now FOLLOW Newport on Twitter, FRIEND us on Facebook and LINK to us on Linked In. Another component of the project was a short introductory video to Newport Computers which may be viewed on YouTube.
On Friday, May 6, the students presented their findings to their classmates, advisors and corporate leaders.
